Canadian Jets Intercepted Russian Bomber Before Obama's Visit

TORONTO — Fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a Russian bomber in the Arctic as it approached Canadian airspace on the eve of President Barack Obama's visit to Ottawa last week, Canada's defense minister said Friday.

Peter MacKay said the bomber never entered Canadian airspace. But he said two Canadian CF-18 jets met the bomber in international airspace and sent a "strong signal that they should back off."

Huzzah to our brave boys in the sky, running off those filthy commies from an attempt at despoiling a foreign dignitary and sending Ivan and his comrades back to their hidey holes in the Kremlin.

Bolton: "(Obama) said during the campaign he thought Iran was a tiny threat. Tiny, tiny depending on how many nuclear weapons they are ultimately able to deliver on target. Its, uh, its tiny compared to the Soviet Union, but is the loss of one American city" – here Bolton shrugged his shoulders impishly – "pick one at random – Chicago – is that a tiny threat?"

Bolton wasn't the only one who thought this was funny. The room erupted in laughter and applause.

Isn't it interesting that those who claim to be the most assiduously patriotic are also those who find amusing the thought of an American city (or should I say, another American city) destroyed, the better to validate their fearful ideology?

What's that river in Egypt again?

'Liberal bias?' IU professors find network TV election coverage favors Republicans - Feb. 24, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A visual analysis of television presidential campaign coverage from 1992 to 2004 suggests that the three television broadcast networks -- ABC, CBS and NBC -- favored Republicans in each election, according to two Indiana University professors in a new book.

Well, at least they didn't say CNN.

Bangor Daily News:

Report: 'Dirty bomb' parts found in slain man's home, By Walter Griffin/BDN Staff

BELFAST, Maine — James G. Cummings, who police say was shot to death by his wife two months ago, allegedly had a cache of radioactive materials in his home suitable for building a “dirty bomb.”

According to an FBI field intelligence report from the Washington Regional Threat and Analysis Center posted online by WikiLeaks (PDF), an investigation into the case revealed that radioactive materials were removed from Cummings’ home after his shooting death on Dec. 9.

(...) four 1-gallon containers of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide, uranium, thorium, lithium metal, thermite, aluminum powder, beryllium, boron, black iron oxide and magnesium ribbon were found in the home.

Also found was literature on how to build “dirty bombs” and information about cesium-137, strontium-90 and cobalt-60, radioactive materials.
The FBI report also stated there was evidence linking James Cummings to white supremacist groups. This would seem to confirm observations by local tradesmen who worked at the Cummings home that he was an ardent admirer of Adolf Hitler and had a collection of Nazi memorabilia around the house, including a prominently displayed flag with swastika.
An application for membership in the National Socialist Movement filled out by Cummings also was found in the residence, according to the report.
Cummings’ wife, Amber B. Cummings, 31, told investigators that her husband spoke of “dirty bombs,” according to the report, and mixed chemicals in her kitchen sink.
She allegedly told police that Cummings subjected her to years of mental, physical and sexual abuse. She also said that Cummings was “very upset” when Barack Obama was elected president.

Just to fill in the blanks here...An emotionally unstable individual with a rather large trust fund and somewhat extreme political viewpoints was on their way to creating a weapon of mass destruction in a cozy suburban basement, and the only thing that foiled the plan was a well-deserved mariticide.

The greatest threat to America will not be from without, in spite of the last 8 years of global bad faith and cowboy diplomacy.

It will be from within, and from reactionary and racist elements that will stop at nothing to achieve their ends. Be aware.
