"Nice country you had - shame something happened to it..."
Dear President Obama,
Now, I'm not a naive fellow - I'm quite cognizant of the fact that no one gets a turn at the Big Wheel without being vetted and buffed smooth until any possible rough edges has been eased away for public consumption, leaving only a viable candidate who can say the 'right things' (to be determined later) with enough ersatz sincerity to get elected - why, even your predecessor (who struggled mightily at all times to not look like some dim-witted frat boy trying to bluff his way out of a botched prank) was processed that way just long enough to trick the majority of marks....twice.
Therefore, you are one of them, bought and paid for and 'transformative politics' be dismissed and thrice-damned. It matters not the skin color or life experience - whatever may have been witnessed in the streets has been long left behind on the road to bargained-for power. Fine and dandy, 'tis your path to tread, forward to glory and all that.
Unfortunately, you're presiding over an incipiently failed nation in the process of dismantlement by the termites within, while propping up systemic corruption and greed with tax money filched from people who can ill-afford three daily meals and shelter, people who genuinely believe in the dream and work hard to make it a reality.
These are the people that you have let down with your weakness. These are the people whom your actions discourage and disappoint, while they enrich the already obscenely wealthy and their elected courtiers and lackeys. Your people.
Don't speak to me of the need for comity and compromise, after the last decade of rampant criminality and military madness.
A law-abiding citizen doesn't compromise with lawbreakers and malfeasants, unless he wishes to join their shady ilk.
Someone sworn to represent the people of a great and vast nation needs to do better than that.
It takes more than pretty words and lofty theoretical concepts, you see...Or maybe you don't. It doesn't matter anymore.
As brother driftglass has so sententiously opined...
Shrug.

I agree for the most part, db, but get this ---Obama may not really be in control, or command, except as "the President", like a role of a sort. At times BO has said a few strange things to lead one to believe this (ie, being mistaken as an intruder at the white house, alluding to the extremely high security, etc).
Im not one for conspiracy theories--and I grant that Obama may have been a genuine Democrat--but he's in too deep now. He's ridin' with...Hillary and her boys, Joint Chiefs, Petraeus, McCaint, military brass of all types, AIPAC, DiDi Feinstein (some may scoff, but that puta's probably ,one of the most powerful humans in the world) Lieberman...and now he's got the Teabagger mouthbreathers to worry about as well--and playing compromise on the tax cuts to appease them, mainly. It's still a wartime situation, and he's probably following orders most of the time. Osiris help us if the hicks start rollin' with Palin or Romney
This vast experiment into just how much shit people'll swallow before they spew SHOULD have maxxed out a decade ago. But for the deadly distractions, threats and fears conjured up to perpetuate the scam, it might have.
As we should be learning now, there is no bottom. No depth to which it won't go. The fuckery has to be peeled from their cold dead hands.
Candidate Obama might have believed it could be corrected. President Obama KNOWS it IS fixed.
IMMOVABLE.

Rxactly. Hear, hear. Why is this such a radical position, DB, expecting our leaders to be honest with us and to fight for everyone, not just the wealthy who don't need help? Then there is this: We've been lied to (re: quietly derailing war crimes and strongarming Spain), and that means we're still getting lied to. Once that lack-of-honor thing gets established, every single thing that follows will naturally be suspect, as it should be. When trust evaporates, all the promises and pledges come untethered and float away.
Sigh... I am so tired of and disappointed in, Barack Obama. :(
((Hugs))

J. - I don't think 'the President' has been in full command/control of the administration since the end of the Johnson presidency (and in some ways even before that), but that's just me.
...
Rechtaw - it must be disheartening to have to force one's idealistic feet into pragmatic shoes...Of course, there is a bottom, but it's somewhat difficult to contemplate for many.

'Why is this such a radical position, DB, expecting our leaders to be honest with us and to fight for everyone, not just the wealthy who don't need help?'
Well, the pay isn't as good, unfortunately.

Laura, he's just a man, in the end. Our American friends (not all of them, of course) have developed a bad habit of 'daddyfying' their leaders over the years, trusting blindly in everything that they do and steadfastly ignoring their flaws and wrongdoings.
It's a hard habit to break, having been inculcated into them for decades.
