db- I iz bad person. Mostly I like your musical picks. And, granted, I am not so musically educated as you are. But when I started watching this, I thought it was a bad imitation of Springsteen. REally, I can imagine a way better version of this by Bruce- even now that he's gettin' old, and gettin' grey (but not underpaid).
ok, db, my musical education continues. Yes, he is great on the pipes, the bagpipes. And I happen to really like bagpipe music. But, at first watch I was put off by the really high voice- take it down an octave and I would have loved it. To me the voice just didn't fit. Hell, I think I have a lower voice than that!
Personally, I'm rather partial to Mr. Scott's voice, redolent of character and antiauthoritarianism as it is - But I like all kinds of voices, from Oum Khalsoum to Lemmy.
I can see where some might not like it, of course, based on emotive intent, the mellifluousness and register of the voice in question.
One of the production secrets that the Youngs have referenced was the required universality of the riff - That if it sounded cohesive in various styles, or played solo on piano then it would work within their traditional rock format.
That Gordon/Spedding show should deliver the goods, CB - a lot of rock/rockabilly history on that stage, perhaps as enjoyable as the one/two punch of Link Wray with Gordon in the '70's.
Ah, that took me back to the days of hip huggers and halter tops. This is no comparison to Springsteen totally different style if you ask me. Just wonder if the pipes were real or dubbed. Not an easy instrument to play.
Jazz is my thing, so I'm on the outside of this controversy. But I am one of the few who likes bagpipes.
But I do relate to the old, out of touch, on the outside, poor and getting poorer every day thing. Did I just hallucinate this part of the conversation?
Not at all, Utah...The quote in the post is from the song, and although subjectively about the tribulations of climbing the ladder of success (Bon was ancient by pop standards when AC/DC first saw international acclaim), could also apply to anyone trying to make their way in a race against time.
btw, apologies if my comments created an untoward controversy. I am basically pretty clueless about the details of rock music (and most other music as well). But, I am always willing to be educated, and to have my musical horizons expanded by db and others. And, thank god for YouTube- it's a great resource for me- catching up on/ watching and listening to all the stuff I've missed.

Well, if it's any consolation, VG, Bon's replacement after his untimely misadventure had even more of a high and annoying voice.
;>)
okay, I will go off to google. But, are you saying that you get it about the voice?
okay, yes, I see what you mean! def. higher and more annoying!
My musical education continues!

A subjective game, that music appreciation.
;>)
yeah, right! very subjective. ;)
Never really appreciated the contribution of these lads until the past few years and now I kinda like them.
I think I started to dig AC/DC after buying the first Jet record which is a pure derivative of the AC/DC sound.
We're going to go see Robert Gordon with Chris Spedding tomorrow evening.

Old AC/DC is where it's at, and this is the band's best song, godbloodydammit.
It certainly gets the blood flowing, Randal. In more ways than one, too, looking back on the nightclub days.

For the purposes of Countdown's broadcast, the pipes (and backing track) were probably dubbed, Demeur - But Bon was the piper on the record.
