Not much between despair and ecstasy

Bobby Fischer 1967

R.I.P. Robert James "Bobby" Fischer, one of my childhood idols.

A human tragedy, that so incandescent a talent should have become eclipsed by unbearable hatred and mental illness.

i will never forget that summer of 1972 -- when he was the news..... and thinking mattered....

and then his demise and fall into severe mental illness

He was uniformly and unfairly criticized for the erratic behavior of his later years. It's regrettable people didn't realize just how sick he was. :-(

We're not a particularly forgiving people, are we?

It was sad to lose Fischer to mental illness..just like Syd Barrett..different spheres but joined by the scourge of mental illness.
