  1. Hey db,

finally got around to watching the YouTube. Great find.

    It's the "emotion" stuff! :)

Jeebus, the music and the words are so apparently "simple", as in "cut down to the bone" Whamo!

  2. The Hook always has a story to tell, VG.

  3. db, yanno, this is probably the essence of music, in some fundamental way. Telling a story. Thus speaks me, the "music expert" (not).

  4. Sure, storytelling's an essential part of the form, VG...From opera, to blues, to folk, and so on. The best jazz musicians tell a story without saying a word.

  5. db- without saying a word- oh, such a great response.

Hard to know where to start, me being the "music expert" and all ;) but do you mean something like this?

  6. sorry, maybe not, but with my limited musical knowledge, "Miles" is always a safe fall-back choice. ;)

  9. Ah, but that might open up the long-standing muso's dispute of 'hot' vs. 'cool' jazz, VG...Many a tumbler of cheap spirits has been spilled and high-strung feelings plucked roughly over that.

    ;>)

Indeed, Miles' Kind Of Blue period, with its emphasis on modality, rich harmonic development, and the sophisticated group interaction of a stellar lineup would be an excellent example of dialog without words.
