CanCon Friday - Loverboy

From the ashes of dreams rose success...Paul Dean, original guitarist with the mighty Streetheart, found himself unemployed due to the usual frictions over creative directions.

A seasoned hand on the Canadian rock scene, he set about finding players of like mind and professionalism to form an act that found itself at exactly the right place and the right time - the 1980's, and the dawn of MTV.

For a little flavor of the moment, let singer Mike Reno tell you the rest of the story of a band still going strong.

Fun fact: It's said that Bob Rock, esteemed producer and former member of the Payolas, requested the use of the late Scott Smith's number one bass while tracking his parts on the infamous St. Anger album by Metallica.

CanCon Friday - Kittie

For my comrade-in-blogs Doctor Zaius, who of late has touted the pulchritudinous and terpsichorean wonders of all-human-female pop groups.

That this sort of wholesome activity is ideal for the American variant of the species goes without saying, of course - but here in Canada the climatic imperatives behoove us to be a little more...aggressive.
After all, survival in the frozen Arctic wastes is of paramount importance.

And so today I bring to you from London, Ontario ('where the weak are killed'), reworking Pink Floyd's Run Like Hell, and their own song Spit...Kittie.

John, You Know It Ain't Easy

Ever Had The Feeling You've Been Anointed?

Wonkette:

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.

A more outstanding modern example of incipient cognitive dissonance in a human mind desperately seeking the elusive circular-aperture-to-quadrilateral-pin connection might be harder to find...Well, there's always next week.

Do It Live

...But they might not all be Wright, either.

At this time, I would like to welcome my recent influx of viewers from that fine organization, Crooks & Liars, and especially my 'Alabammy unbound' pal Blue Gal.
